Amazonmp3 public beta released a couple of days ago. This is an extremely big effort to become a real competitor with iTunes, many other companies have tried and have not come even close. A song will cost you 89 to 99 cents. Albums from $4.99 to $9.99, both much cheaper than iTunes. The top 100 albums are all priced at lower prices. That is one of many of the huge advantages. Everything is DRM free, use the music with any application, any music player, and share with people legally! All music is encoded at 256kbps. On iTunes you got to put in an extra 30 cents if you want it encoded in 256k that is $1.29 for a song.
The only down side, amazonmp3 only has a selection of 2 million songs compared to iTunes 6 million+. Amazon may have a lot of work because songs from the old days were on records. That type of music is hard to convert to the music formats of today.
Amazonmp3 has been the greatest of all efforts yet to match up with iTunes.
